Pierre Maraval veröffentlichte 1975 einen Artikel über Nyssa, in dem er den damaligen Kenntnisstandstand zur Lokalisierung des Bischofssitzes Gregors referierte Mit dieser Publikation verband Maraval die Absicht, Ergebnisse von Textquellenanalysen für mögliche archäologische Arbeiten zur Verfügung zu stellen.
